Prenatal care is the critical care a person receives during pregnancy. This should begin as soon as you know you are pregnant. The midwives at our birth center provide care for people who are having a low-risk pregnancy. Whether you choose to give birth at our beautiful birth center in the heart of Gainesville, in your home, or in a hospital, our midwives focus on respecting your beliefs and your family to provide individualized nurturing, person-centered care. Our midwives are trained in comprehensive prenatal care that will enhance your health, recognize risk factors, and identify potential problems. Research shows that people who regularly receive prenatal care have healthier babies and are less likely to deliver prematurely.
Appointments with a midwife will include physical assessments, education, and time to get to know one another. This time is very important for you and your family, which is why we set aside 30 to 60 minutes for questions. Together we will explore any concerns or fears you might have. We will also discuss your personal needs, previous birth experiences, and expectations for your current pregnancy and birth. The goal of a midwife is to provide full circle care by attending to both your physical and mental needs.
What to Expect
Respectful treatment: We will discuss and go over beliefs, wishes and expectations.
Personal attention: You and your baby are the reason for our visit.
We will do our best to make sure you have everything you need mentally, emotionally and medically.
Plenty of information: We will share information about pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding and newborn care.
Always encouraging healthy lifestyle choices, including nutrition.
Appropriate monitoring: You receive regular, thorough checkups for you and your baby, as well as recommended diagnostic testing through labs and ultrasounds (as needed).
Natural comfort measures: Encouragement, relaxation, laboring in water and changing position are among the effective comfort measures we may discuss.
Simply Prenatal Care
We strongly believe that everyone deserves access to a midwife, regardless of where they birth their baby. We offer Simply Prenatal Care for people who are having a low-risk pregnancy and wish to experience the benefits of person-centered, individualized, prenatal care while birthing their baby in the hospital. The same supportive, empowering prenatal care is provided with special attention to helping you prepare for your hospital birth. Visits are scheduled every 4 weeks through 28 weeks of gestation, every 2 weeks through 36 weeks of gestation, then weekly until you have your baby. Simply Prenatal also includes two visits at 2 weeks and 6 weeks postpartum. If you would like a midwife to accompany you to the hospital as your doula (labor coach), that can be arranged if there is room in our schedule for another birth that month.
