The process of birthing a baby is incredibly challenging, but it's work that holds great potential for being the most rewarding and empowering experience in a woman's life.  I will quietly monitor you and your baby's well-being while honoring your individual path, and patiently hold space so that you can explore the amazing person you've just brought into the world.

Your newborn is being evaluated from birth through careful observation and gentle, unobtrusive monitoring of vital signs.  After immediate skin to skin and an hour or so of bonding and breastfeeding, I perform a comprehensive newborn exam.  This is when we will find out how much your new bundle of joy weighs (the ever popular question!) and how long he/she is.  I also provide general guidance for those first few days postpartum, helping to ensure that you're able to devote your energy to bonding, breastfeeding, and getting to know the newest member of your family.

Postpartum Care

During this time I am also able to address any health problems, concerns or questions that you may have regarding your general well being and newborn care. A call is made the first day after birth to check in with you and answer any questions, then follow-up care is done at 2 days, 2 weeks, and 6 weeks postpartum.
